In the context of marking the International Day of Democracy, on September 15, 2026, the electoral council of the Edineț district electoral constituency No. 16 organized an information activity for the youth of the College of Zootechnics and Veterinary Medicine in Brătușeni.
The activity aimed to promote democratic values and principles, inform young people about their rights and civic responsibilities, as well as highlight the importance of civic participation and the active involvement of the younger generation in the democratic life of the community.
During the meeting, several topics of interest to young people were addressed, ranging from the essence of democracy and the role of elections in a rule of law state, to the rights and responsibilities of citizens within electoral processes.
Participants discussed the fact that the will of the people constitutes the foundation of state power, which is expressed through free, periodic elections conducted by universal, equal, direct, secret, and freely expressed suffrage.
Another topic addressed was the right to vote and how to exercise it. Young people were explained the importance of informed and responsible voting, the necessity of respecting the free and secret nature of the vote, as well as the responsibility of each citizen to be correctly informed before exercising their electoral right.
Additionally, the discussions included information about the organization and functioning of electoral bodies, their role in preparing and conducting elections, and the importance of respecting electoral legislation. It was emphasized that transparency, fairness, and accountability are important elements for conducting a credible electoral process.
Particular emphasis was placed on the involvement of young people in the democratic process. The Chairwoman of the electoral council emphasized that participation in democracy is not limited to exercising the right to vote as a voter.
In this context, students were encouraged to view the electoral process from the perspective of direct involvement in organizing elections, as electoral officials. The possibility for young people to inform themselves, acquire knowledge and skills in the electoral field, and subsequently participate in the organization and conduct of elections within electoral bodies, under the conditions provided by legislation, was presented.
The discussions also included aspects regarding civic participation and citizen responsibility, highlighting that a democratic society is strengthened when citizens are informed, know their rights, respect the rights of others, and actively engage in community life.
The activity took place in an atmosphere of dialogue and open communication. Young people asked questions, expressed opinions, and showed interest in how they can concretely participate in democratic and electoral processes.
Through such information and civic education activities, the electoral council of the Edineț district electoral constituency No. 16 aims to contribute to the development of electoral and democratic culture among the younger generation and to promote active and responsible participation in society.

Democracy needs informed, engaged, and responsible citizens. And young people can contribute to democracy not only through voting but also through their direct involvement in electoral processes.
