The International Day of Democracy, celebrated annually on September 15, represents an opportunity to reflect on the values that underpin a democratic society - participation, freedom, equality, respect for human rights, responsibility, and civic engagement.
In this context, on September 14, 2026, two educational lessons on electoral education were held for students of the gymnasium classes at the "Hănăsenii Noi" Gymnasium in Leova district.
The activities were titled "How do we vote correctly in a world of rumors and fake news?" and were organized in partnership with the Continuous Training Center in the Electoral Field (CICDE).
The two lessons were conducted for two groups of students - fifth and sixth grades and seventh and eighth grades - providing them with the opportunity to address important aspects regarding correct and responsible information in an interactive and age-appropriate format.
During the activities, students discussed the difference between truthful information, rumors, and fake news, being encouraged to analyze the information they encounter and to formulate questions that help them verify its credibility.
Another important objective of the lessons was to highlight the role of correct information in forming an opinion and making an informed decision in the electoral context. Through practical exercises and discussions, students were encouraged to adopt a responsible attitude towards the information they receive and share.
Electoral education represents an important tool for developing civic competencies and for forming a generation capable of distinguishing truthful information from manipulative content and participating in an informed and responsible manner in democratic life.
Democracy means more than exercising the right to vote. It means informed and active citizens, dialogue, respect for different opinions, and involvement in community life.
By conducting these activities, the Leova District Electoral Council No. 22 joins the efforts to promote electoral education and democratic values among the younger generation.
The Leova District Electoral Council No. 22 thanks the director of the "Hănăsenii Noi" Gymnasium, Munteanu Oxana, for her openness and support in carrying out the activity, as well as CICDE and trainer Gheorghe Rață for their contribution to the realization of this electoral education initiative. The activity was organized in the context of the International Day of Democracy - 2026 edition, a campaign launched by the Central Electoral Commission and the Continuous Training Center in the Electoral Field (CICDE) with the support of UNDP Moldova, within the project "Strengthening Democratic Resilience in Moldova," aimed at informing and raising awareness dedicated to promoting democratic values and encouraging active and responsible citizen participation in democratic life.
