On the occasion of the International Day of Democracy, celebrated annually on September 15, the President of the Electoral Council of the Ungheni Electoral District No. 35 held a meeting with the employees of the Territorial Agency for Social Assistance Center-West.
The discussions focused on the essential role that social workers play in facilitating an inclusive, transparent, and accessible electoral process for every citizen. The celebration of democracy is, above all, about people and about guaranteeing the fundamental right of every citizen to freely express their choice through voting. In this equation, the social worker often represents the direct bridge between electoral bodies and vulnerable individuals, the elderly, or those with reduced mobility in the community. During the meeting, the importance of inter-institutional cooperation between electoral district structures and social assistance services was emphasized. Due to their daily fieldwork, assistants and social workers are best acquainted with the specific needs of the local community and provide the necessary logistical and informational support to ensure that no voter is left behind.
The main topics addressed included:
- Ensuring the right to vote for all voters: Facilitating procedures for voting at the place of residence (mobile ballot box) for individuals who, due to health or disability reasons, cannot travel to the polling station.
- Electoral culture and accurate information: Direct communication and explanation of electoral rights among social service beneficiaries, promoting conscious and active participation in civic life.
- Respect for dignity and equal opportunities: Creating optimal conditions for accessibility and support, so that the voting process is fully adapted to the specific needs of all population categories.
Democracy is built through solidarity and involvement. The marking of the International Day of Democracy provides an opportunity to express gratitude to all those who oversee the proper conduct of democratic processes. The President of the Ungheni Electoral Council thanked the ATAS Center-West team for their professionalism, empathy, and dedication. Authentic democracy is directly proportional to a society's ability to include all its members, and the work of social workers remains a firm guarantee that the right to vote remains universal, equal, and unrestricted.
